The Kendrick Family: We Speak, You Listen

For Mother's Day, Ben and Kandy were asked to speak in Sacrament Meeting. As Kandy got up to speak, Buster piped up (again), "Wanna talk!" My helpful neighbor (sitting with us for just this reason) took him out in the hall so I could actually hear the talk.

Tonight at Family Home Evening, Ben said that if the Bishop asked for one of our children to speak in Sacrament Meeting, he would recommend Missy since Kandy has already done it twice and Missy hasn't. Missy got a thoughtful expression on her face and said, after a moment, "I think it would make me a little embaraththed" (she has no front teeth).

Sunny quickly spoke out: "I want to talk in Thacrament Meeting!" (She has her teeth, she just has a lisp.)

Not to be outdone, Buster rejoined, "Talk Sac-a-ment!"

"Do you want to talk in Sacrament Meeting?" Ben asked.

"Uh-huh!" came the enthusiastic reply.

Oh, sure, Missy is the "shy" one, but only for a Kendrick.

Tonight Sunny didn't want to go to sleep. She did have a rather late nap, so we let her stay up for a while. About 10:15, Ben saw her yawn, and he mentioned it.

"That wasn't a yawn," she replied disdainfully, "that was a silent scream." After watching the weather, Ben saw her yawn again, and he called her on it.

"That was just a thing I do when I'm mad." Right. We turned out the lights and TV in the family room and left her there. She was asleep less than 10 minutes later.

Family Fun!

Several of Ben's out-of-town siblings were here recently. We had lots of fun family gatherings. We also went down the Jordan River in the canoes with Billy's family. Here are few highlights:

Missy and cousins enjoying pizza!

More pizza!

Jumping on Aunt Karen's tramp.
Wow, that's a lot of little girls!

Cousins! 3 families of at least 3 girls and one more makes 10!

We were amazed to discover that Kandy and her cousin
had the exact same glasses!

Canoes on the Jordan River. We have a very nice friend who loaned us
two of his canoes to hold Ben's brothers family and his dad.
I stayed home with Buster.

Phew! What a weekend! Buster and Lizzie tuckered out on Sunday afternoon at their cousin's homecoming reception.

Love parties!

Okay, I'm still trying to figure out some formatting stuff on this blog. I can write real html, but this is new! So I'm sorry for the weird stuff, but I wanted to post and go to bed!

and look for money!

One of my favorite things about parties is letting the kids run wild with other kids! And passing the baby around is lots of fun, too...

Phew! What a fun Saturday. We had a stake Emergency Preparedness Fair today, and Ben and I both presented. He talked about the importance of document scanning, and I made my half-wheat cookies and brownies. At the end, they brought some search and rescue dogs. I am used to service dogs that have to be "on duty" and can't play much, but these dogs are quite the opposite! They are trained to be friendly, sociable, and people-loving. They had them on leashes throughout the presentation, and then they turned them loose to socialize. The kids had fun--especially Kandy who got to be the "victim" for the demonstration. She hid, and the dogs had to find her.

After the Fair, we went a Kendrick Family Reunion party in Farmington for Ben's grandfather's descendants. We didn't know many people there, as usual, but the kids had fun running and playing on the playground. Buster had fun being passed around between his aunt, grandma, and grandpa. Sunny took a nap on the floor at the Fair, and she did really well at the party.
Sunny's turn to dig

She was quite exhausted by the time we came home, but we managed to keep her awake long enough to feed her dinner and wash the lemonade and sawdust (from the party) out of her hair!

And here's a cute picture of Buster:
